Who is www.africa-photo.com?
www.africa-photo.com is a sub-division of Christoph & Friends
Media+Trade Agents and DAS FOTOARCHIV..GmbH.
President and owner of the company is Henning Christoph, who founded the
company in 1985.
The photographic division of the company is DAS FOTOARCHIV. which is divided
into two departments - the physical photo files with over 1,5 million
photos and the digital department which is responsible for our online
content. DAS FOTOARCHIV. with itīs partners in New York and Stockholm
has 15 million photos from 1890 to the present day at itīs disposal, covering
practically any subject you may think of.
The division Christoph & Friends Media+Trade Agents is involved in
book publishing, museum exhibitions, video productions, African art, African
natural medicine and many other projects concerning Africa.

Do I have to register again ?
If you are registered for one of our other picture-databanks like "www.ruhrpix.de" "www.das-fotoarchiv.com" or "curious-moments-photo.com" you don´t have to register again. You can use your customer data for access.
Access to www.africa-photo.com is free, there are no subscription or membership fees.
All photos on www.africa-photo.com are protected by copyright. There is a fee for any usage (see price-info). You must also name the photographer and the agency (for example: Henning Christoph/Das Fotoarchiv).
The user pays EUR 2,50 / $ 2,50 for downloading High Res data, and EUR 1,50 / $ 1,50 for downloading Low Res data.
If you order High Res scanned data by email, easy transfer, leonardo etc. we charge EUR 5,- / $ 5,-. for each photo. If you choose Leonardo or easy transfer we charge an additional basic fee of EUR 10,- / $ 10,-.
If you order scanned photomaterial on a CD Rom we charge you EUR 30,- / $ 30,- plus shipping.
You can also order the original photos from "www.africa-photo.com" which we would send by courier or mail. For this service wwe charge EUR 22,50 / $ 22,50 plus postage or courier costs.
You have the possibility to search by keyword (full text search) and receive thumbnail images.
As an alternative you can pick a theme on the lefthand side.
Registered users can store photos in the shopping cart for future use.

How are photos priced and then licensed for
use ?
Once you have selected the photos you want, you can find out about costs
and confirm the costs in the download area. Here, you choose your intended
use. The licensing will always be for the number of all the pictures in
the download shopping cart. At the end of the process you will be informed of
total costs of the licensing fees your customer account will be charged
with. By confirming this amount, and by starting the download process
you agree to the debit of your customer account with the sums you have
confirmed.

How long does delivery take ?
If you choose online delivery, the delivery times vary according to file
size and to your personal connection to the internet. If your internet
connection is working via ISDN, the delivery download time is less than
1 minute for low and medium resolution files. If you license and download
a high resolution in JPEG format, it should take between 1 and 5 minutes
to complete delivery. We are dedicated to delivering the content
you select to you in the quickest and most efficient manner.
Photos you request by courier are delivered in one or two days.
After you have registered, you have the opportunity to open a customer account. You will consequently be sent a "contract for the sale and usage of photographs". We need information on who you are and how you intend to use our photos. Once your account is established, you can transfer High Res data to your system. Only after you have confirmed that you accept the charges and have downloaded a picture, we will debit your account. We will send you an itemized invoice.
If you are a new client we only accept Visa or Mastercard/Eurocard or a Western Union Money order. To protect your data we use a SSL-server.
You can print out the credit card form and fax it to us, if you prefer not to use the SSL-server.
If you have ordered several times we can invoice you, but please be aware that we must charge a bank fee for foreign money exchange. Since we donīt want money transfer to hinder you from ordering, and you donīt like using a credit card, please get in touch with us, either by phone or email, and we will find a solution.
If you have established a credit card account with us, www.africa-photo.com will charge your account after each transaction.
Once you have confirmed the fees of the pictures, you can download them onto your computer. Here is the best way to do this:
With the cursor on the download-link, a long mouse-click for a "Mac" - or a click on the righthand mouse-button of a "PC" - will open a dialogue window. Here you should choose "save as" and then decide where you want to store the picture on your computer

To copy a 1/2 size comp picture (200 KB) onto your desktop, you simply need to place the cursor arrow directly onto the picture and depress the mouse button (if you are on a PC hold down the right mouse button). When the menu appears onscreen, select "copy this image" or save it as a JPEG file. To "pull up" your image, open Adobe Photoshop (or an equivalent program) and either paste or open your JPEG file. Full-size pictures (700KB) can only be obtained by downloading them. Please keep in mind, that you may use these low-resolution pictures only for internal layout purposes
What is the "shopping cart"?
The shopping cart is like having your own personal file cabinet. If you copy the pictures you are interested onto the shopping cart (by
clicking on the "shopping cart" button underneath the picture), you
can collect and then review the picture(s) there, make a last editing,
before you download the selected material.
The layout photos have a size of 700K. Fine data are scanned at 1800 dpi and are filed int the highest quality jpg/jpeg-format. As a result we have sizes for each image from 12 to 14 MB. Per special request we can scan a higher resolution. Please contact us for the additional costs.
Photos can be delivered online
- instant online electronic delivery,
- instant ISDN point to point delivery,
- overnight delivery on CD-ROM.
You have to pay a download fee for online delivery. There is a EUR 10,- / $ 10,- basic fee and EUR 5,- / $ 5,-charge per photo for instant ISDN delivery.
There is a EURO 30 / $ 30 charge per disc (plus shipping), if you wish to have pictures loaded and delivered on CD-ROM.
If you need the original photo, we will of course do our best to get it for you as soon as possible.
If you have no possibility to receive photos digitally we can send you hard copies per courier or by mail. Courier usually take one day in Europe. Mail usually takes longer.

Even though our collection of African photos is very large we canīt put all of them on www.africa-photo.com. In case you didnīt find what you are looking for, we may still have it in our files. Please call or send us your photo request by Email, phone or fax (see under contact).

Only we are able to encrypt this data. You can recognize the coded data transfer by the small lock on the bottom line of your browser..

Yes we do. We offer professional support in finding the material you are looking for. Our editors will find what you are looking for and place it in your shpping cart if you so request. Our picture researchers will also search our conventional files for you and send photos by courier or mail. This will however cost you a research fee. You can email, call or fax us.
